Teams are doing extraordinary things with Relay

Teams are doing extraordinary things with Relay

Please share an overview of your property.

We are a 54 room, boutique luxury hotel in a historic building located in the heart of the Midtown district of Oklahoma City.

What were you using for communication before Relay?

We had used some Motorola radios, some Retevis brand radios from Amazon and finally we subscribed to Orion. Each of them had their own combination of issues.

After trying those three radio options, we were discouraged that they relied too heavily on WIFI, or couldn’t penetrate the historic brick walls, or couldn’t reach from the building to the parking lot, etc. Some of the devices just had far too many functions to make them simple and useful for the most “tech-inexperienced” employee. A brief test with Relay devices proved that they were able to overcome all of these challenges.

What jobs does Relay help your teams perform?

Relay is used by two of our departments - Valet and Front Desk teams - as well as between the Kitchen and the Rooftop Bar to communicate food orders and readiness.

What can Relay do that a standard walkie-talkie or cell phone cannot?

Relay was able to overcome our biggest challenges which were reliability of connection through walls, elevators and over large distances combined with an extremely simple user interface.

What features on Relay do you use besides two-way communication?

We use location tracking - which has been brilliant for retrieving multiple devices that employees have accidentally taken home. We keep a fairly simple, 2 channel, lineup that is sufficient for us. We didn’t need the bells, whistles and translation services—we just need to be sure our message gets through every time, which Relay delivers on.

What have been the benefits you and your team have experienced from using Relay?

Quick communication and ease of use.

Any other thoughts on Relay you’d like to share?

Relay has offered the most elegant solution to our interdepartmental communications and helped take our services to a level that was completely new to us.

To us, they were the most affordable option on the market as well as the most reliable without getting bogged down with too many bells and whistles. Early after my introduction to them, their generous customer support provided us with a low pressure opportunity to sample their radios in action, and made the decision to purchase and subscribe to their services an extremely easy one. Their simple and easy to carry devices make communication possible among our employees, even ones that don’t consider themselves to be “tech-savvy.”
